Should I do it? Shouldn’t I do it? What’s the point of going? These are but only a few questions you’ll end up asking yourself about whether or not you want to volunteer or not. However, never fear because we are here to give you our top 10 reasons as to why you should be volunteering and how it will benefit you.
1. FIND A PURPOSE
Not only does it allow you to expand your horizons but it is good for your mind and soul; and inspires you which will obviously get you feeling good about yourself. As a good musician once said ” I’m not lost, just undiscovered”.
2. DEVELOP NEW SKILLS
Allow yourself to use the skills you already have to do some good and at the same time learn new skills and languages.
3. CAREER BOOSTER
Yes, you heard it correctly. You can add this to your Resume/CV showing your future employer that you are able to go that extra mile to make a difference and that you welcome challenges with open arms (Well maybe not ALL challenges… but challenges, you know).
4. GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH
It’s scientifically proven that helping others and changing their lives has such an impact on our own bodies. We forget about our own problems and stress which in turn reduces stress and increases your immune system strength. (who says you need gym to be healthy haha)
5. MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Volunteering is by far one of the most effective ways to make a difference and support or contribute to a cause you care about. And of course, will definitely have an impact on your own life.
6. REAL-WORLD CHALLENGES
By putting yourself out there, you get to experience the real world and apply all those theoretical knowledge you learnt in classes. Not only this, but it also allows you to encounter these challenges and obstacles first-hand and in person giving you a significantly bigger advantage when dealing with similar situations in future.
7. IT’S FUN
This is top on my personal favourite list of why volunteering is awesome. Meeting new people from different cultures and backgrounds and making friends for a lifetime. You also get to explore new areas of interest that could open many more doors for you.
8. IT’S ATTRACTIVE
Volunteering allows you to make and accept changes which moulds you into a new and better version of yourself. Trust me when I say this, but volunteering kinda makes you really attractive (yes I said it…makes you hotter than Jalapeno peppers marinated in lava for a year), and to top it off, it attracts like-minded people to you.
9. IMPRESS YOUR MOM
No matter your age you always want to impress mom and finally put the constant nagging of “get off the couch and do something”. This one’s for you mom but you could also impress yourself by doing something you never thought you would do. No better time than the present so CARPE DIEM!
10. THE FOOD
And we end it with the the best (in my opinion because I’m a foodie). Like who doesn’t love food right? Aside from reason 1 to 9, you get to taste the delicious traditional food that will without a doubt have you wanting to know the recipe.
