President’s Award Program

Volunteer programs in South Africa

The President’s Award is the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award in South Africa.  The President’s Award creates opportunities for young people to develop character, discover their purpose and determine their future to contribute towards nation building.

Young adults participating in the Gold Level Award are required to complete a Residential project, where they must undertake a shared purposeful activity with people who are not their usual colleagues or friends, in an unfamiliar residential setting for at least 4 nights and 5 consecutive days.

At EDGE of AFRICA we host young adults embarking on their Residential Project through a 5 day volunteering experience.

You will stay at our volunteer accommodation in Knysna (South Africa) and learn about and be involved in community outreach and environmental projects.

There is an all inclusive program cost of R3995 for 4 nights and 5 days and we require a minimum group size of 3 to go ahead with the program. If you are an individual wanting to join a program, get in touch with us and we will let you know when our next program is running.

We also operate short term projects for students who want to complete their bronze or silver awards.

Please get in touch with us to apply for your residential program:

It was the absolute, most exquisite fun time I’ve had. I loved helping the people in the townships, playing with the kids and the elderly. I was able to do things that I would never normally do.
